Volleyball Leads the Way

The Skagit Valley College volleyball team had a very good start to their 2009 season. Their league record is 2-2 and their overall record is 6-5. Their two wins were from rivals Edmonds and Everett, a loss against the tough first place Whatcom team. Skagit Valley has a very strong team.
The team is being lead by fourth year head coach Kelsey Savage-Swapp and third year assistant coach Lianna Neyens. Both coaches are very qualified individuals. Head coach Kelsey was named Northern Division coach in 2006, played volleyball and basketball at Skagit Valley College, and was named female athlete of the year in 2000. She also went on to play at Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR.
Lianna Neyens is also very qualified, playing two years at Skagit Valley College, earning team MVP and being on first team all conference. She then went on to Oregon Institute of Technology. Not only is the team lead by two qualified coaches, but also by nine returning sophomores: Lauren Hope, Ariel Erienbach, Shelbi Vopnford, Lauren Slaymaker, April Bobadilla, Shelby Zanoni, Jordon Braga, Rachel Stephenson, and Clarissa Boyer. These nine returning sophomores are all very experienced players. Expect this volleyball team to lead the way for Skagit Valley College.
